South Korea star set to make Blaze debut against Stingrays

South Korea international Woo-Sang Park admits he is "thrilled" to be given the chance to play for Coventry Blaze in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League. The 26-year-old arrived in the country on Thursday night and will practice with his new team-mates before making his debut in the Challenge Cup tie against Hull Stingrays at Hull Arena on Saturday. Park has been given a one-month trial at the Skydome on the recommendation of defenceman Dustin Wood - the pair having played at Anyang Halla in the Asia League for the last two seasons. Park said: "I am thrilled to be coming to play in the UK. I know Woody is there and I wanted to play with him too. It is good also because it is easier for me to adjust in an English speaking country.

Luck

"My former club Halla's scout Sam [Samuel Kim] is a good friend of mine and did a tremendous job in getting this for me. I also want to thank [Blaze coach] Paul Thompson and Woody for giving me an opportunity to play for the Blaze." Park has represented his country at Under-18 level and has been part of the senior side for the past five World Championship campaigns, winning a bronze medal in Division One earlier this year. He admitted playing in Britain has always appealed to him and added: "For sure. There were other choices and options I was looking into but this summer I wasn't getting too much luck. "It was hard sitting and waiting for the deal to come and I know it's not an easy deal signing Asian players which could be a huge gamble. "At the same time, I really wanted to play in England where I think I can play and compete hard. I played against Britain a couple of years ago at the World Championship and I was impressed with the way they played. "I know I can bring some offense. I am an all-around centreman who can help in many areas. I have some pressure because I know the team will want me to play well and I know it is not going to be easy."
