Canadian forward out to topple league leaders

Mike McLean has challenged Coventry Blaze to finish the Rapid Solicitors Elite League season on a high - starting against leaders Belfast Giants on Sunday night. Blaze go into the game at the Skydome on the back of a four-match losing streak which has seen them fall to sixth place in the standings. They have beaten Giants twice already this season - once home and away - and are aiming to tie the series against them. McLean said: "Belfast are a really good team. They are well-coached, they are solid and they are top for a reason.

Important

"They show up every night and they are going for that league title. They are on a good run right now but we want to get on a streak ourselves." The Canadian forward also wants to see an improvement in Blaze's home form having lost three of the last four at the Skydome. Blaze have three games in a row at home - against Belfast, Edinburgh Capitals and Nottingham Panthers - and six of their last 10 regular-season games are also in front of their own fans. McLean added: "You always want to make sure you win your home games because, with the travelling and things, it is tough to win on the road. "We need to start playing for 60 minutes instead of 56 and stop making mistakes and stupid plays. These last 10 games are really important. We cannot just flick the switch on in the play-offs."
