John Hopkins became the first American to take pole position for an MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship race after being fastest in qualifying at the new Snetterton 300 layout. The Samsung Suzuki rider set a time of 1 minute 47.451 seconds to finish over half a second quicker than Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill. Jon Kirkham and Josh Brookes took third and fourth places respectively to make it three Suzukis on the front row. Championship leader Shane Byrne will start from sixth position after slowing in the closing moments of the session with a rear tyre problem.
