Frenchman beats title rival Huff home in both races on Sunday

Yvan Muller dominated the World Touring Car Championship round at Donington Park by taking victory in both races at the British venue. In race one, Muller led home a Chevrolet one-two-three ahead of Rob Huff and Alain Menu - the same order the trio qualified in - and the Frenchman also crossed the line first in race two. Home favourite Huff, whose lead over Muller in the points standings has now been cut to 15 points, was runner-up once again in the second race Third place went to independent BMW driver Franz Engstler as Menu had to settle for fifth spot. Tom Coronel was fourth in both races. The second race saw a number of incidents early on and there was an investigation by stewards after Muller hit the back of Huff's car on lap two and then overtook his championship rival into sixth place.

Investigation

The result of the race stood following the investigation but Muller was given a three-place grid penalty, suspended for the next two races. "Two victories in the same weekend is a great result. It was important for me to reduce the gap in the points and I was able to cut it by half," Muller said after completing the double. "During the second race there was a lot happening between the drivers in front of me and this helped me to gain some positions. I hit Rob and overtook him like he did it at Porto. It was a race incident, it was not intentional." Huff added on www.fiawtcc.com: "Unfortunately I lost a lot of points today, but I am still leading by 15, which is good news. "In the second race I was hit from behind by Yvan and he jumped ahead of me. Like Yvan said in Porto, it is just a matter to know what is allowed and what is not. "Now we'll see what happens in the next races and for sure we will be fighting again for pole positions and victories."
