Former Ultimate Fighter star retires after loss to Gustafsson
Following his loss to Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 133, Matt Hamill has decided it is time to call it quits and retire.
Hamill first made a name for himself on The Ultimate Fighter Season 3 where the born-deaf fighter became a protege of Tito Ortiz.
He has been competing in the UFC since 2007, and fans have had the chance to watch him grow from a wrestler into a true mixed martial artist.
In an MMA career spanning six years, the 34-year-old has fought UFC notables such as Jon Jones, Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson and Tito Ortiz.
"I just don't have it in me to fight anymore and my last two performances have shown that," Hamill said on his website.
"I was ready to make this decision after UFC 130 but my friends, family coaches and most importantly my daughter encouraged me to give it one last chance."
Hamill will remain working as a coach with head trainer Duff Holmes at their gym, Mohawk Valley MMA. He will also be spending time promoting 'Hamill', a film based on his life that is set to be released this autumn.
He added: "The UFC has become family to me and I hope to be involved with the number one mixed martial arts organization in the world as a coach, ambassador and fan for a long time to come."
