Next year’s England National Badminton Championships will return to Crawley, Sussex for the first time in nearly 30 years.

The nation’s best badminton players will compete for national titles between January 30 and February 1 at the K2.

Having been home to the National Championships for four seasons during the 1980s, a golden period for English badminton, Crawley holds a special place in the history of the English Nationals. Since 1964, the championships have been staged at 18 different venues nationwide – from Birkenhead and Hull to Paignton and Brighton.

More recently, the championships were held in Manchester for nine years, before moving to Milton Keynes for the first time last year.

We feel it is the right time to take the championships to parts of the country where badminton is flourishing.

From 2015, Badminton England will take the championships back to its roots, rewarding badminton communities where local club and league scenes are thriving.

Adrian Christy, chief executive of Badminton England, said: “The English National Championships are all about celebrating the very best English badminton has to offer – be it the players, the volunteers, the coaches and fans who come out week in, week out to support the nation’s most popular racket sport.

“Our county badminton associations and local authority partners are key to the success of English badminton. We feel it is the right time to take the championships to parts of the country where badminton is flourishing.

“We are delighted that K2 will welcome Glasgow 2014 stars and the latest generation of talent to inspire new fans in places where the Nationals have left a long-standing tradition.”
