American Bernard Lagat completed a unique double on the final day of the World Championships when adding the 5,000m gold to his 1,500m title. The Kenyan-born athlete, who qualified for the 5,000 final a day after winning the 1,500m, was suited by the slow pace as the race developed into a sprint. Britain's Mo Farah led at the bell but was predicatably outpaced by the principals on the final lap - Lagat winning the dash to the line in 13 minutes, 46.87 seconds. Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge claimed silver with Uganda's Moses Ndiema Kipsiro taking bronze, while Farah finished a gallant sixth. Kenya's Alfred Kirwa Yego claimed gold in the 800m with a last-gasp victory over Gary Reed of Canada. Yego found himself boxed in on the final bend as Reed made his bid for glory, and the 20-year-old required the length of the straight to peg him back by the narrowest margin. Russia's Yuriy Borzakovskiy finished third in 1:47.39.
