A late Jason Koumas penalty earned Wigan a share of the spoils at the JJB against Fulham but Alan McInally believes the Cottagers should have wrapped up the win long before Wigan's equaliser.
McInally said on
Soccer Saturday that the visitors were the better team for most of the game and will be disappointed not to have gone back to west London with all three points.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 11th minute as Clint Dempsey tucked the ball home with his left peg.
"Fulham were the better team for 80 minutes," said McInally.
"They will be really disappointed that they didn't kill the game off before Wigan even got into it.
"Hameur Bouazza did well until he gave away the penalty and I don't know whether he was taken off because of that. Simon Davies did okay and certainly Diomansy Kamara and Clint Dempsey were a handful, they really were.
"They created, between them, some great opportunities. Fulham's defence didn't have an awful lot to do."
But Wigan won a late penalty and Koumas buried it to grab a point for Chris Hutchings' team.
"They almost nicked it, Wigan," continued McInally.
"Paul Scharner was through and it was awkward but if he gets anything on it there's no way Antti Niemi can stop it.
"Wigan started so slowly. It really upset them when Emile Heskey went off injured. Josip Skoko came on and that definitely helped as they played better in the second half.
"Before that Wigan didn't really cause Fulham problems and Chris Kirkland had a super game.
"He kept them in the game but he shouldn't have been able to as Dempsey hit a shot but Kirkland made a great save.
"It's a better result for Fulham the fact that it's away from home. Wigan have got to be winning these games but weren't good enough today, dead simple."
