Former champion Jamie Hughes took first place at the Fish 'O' Mania 2015 qualifier at Boldings Fishery in Shropshire.
A full house of 130 fished the qualifier at the picturesque location in Shropshire on May 27. The venue had been on top form leading up to match day so expectations were high all round, but a rapid change in air pressure and a really cool night made it difficult for many.
Serious spawning activity on some pools really dragged weights down, although only 7lbs separated the top four anglers, and with a couple of exceptions it needed 50lbs to win any of the 10-peg sections.
The qualifying place was won by angling coach and 2013 champion Jamie Hughes, who drew peg three on the small Acorn Pool and fished tight over with pellet to put together a fine weight of 102lbs 14oz, comprising carp to 8lbs and F1s.
Second place was Fish ‘O’ Mania regular Stephen Oppenshaw, who caught carp to 6lbs while fishing mainly shallow with caster topped up with a few late edge fish on the maggot at peg 11 on Stocks Pool.
Darren Cox took third spot after finishing with 97lbs 12oz of barbel to 4lbs from Willows peg four, fishing maggot over loose fed caster.
Fourth place went to Jon Harvey as he weighed 95lbs 5oz from Hawthorns seven, while Dan Ashington took fifth with 83lbs 15oz from Beech 3.
The Fish ‘O’ Mania action continues on Saturday 30th May at Colemans Cottage Fishery, Essex.
