Battery charge!

Wayne looks ahead to Steve Molitor's defence of his bantamweight tittle against Fahsan 3K Battery.

Steve Molitor will defend his IBF super bantamweight belt this weekend against Fahsan 3K Battery in Canada. This will be Molitor's second defence of the vacant belt he won when he fought Britain's Michael Hunter in November 2006. But this Saturday he will face tough 3k Battery who is rated in the top 10 of the IBF rakings. Molitor and 3K Battery are both southpaws. Molitor is the boxer who likes to use his right hand and good footwork to avoid any really hard contact from his opponents. 3K Battery likes to push forward landing big overhand lefts. Molitor is a hot prospect in this tough division along with WBC champion Israel Vazquez, WBA champion Celestine Caballero and hard hitting Daniel Ponce de Leon who holds the WBO belt. So there are some good exciting fights to be made in this weight class if the champions unify in the future. But Molitor has to first take care of business before looking ahead. 3K Battery's real name is Narongrit Pirang but took the name 3K from his sponsor which is a brand of automotive and motorcycle batteries in Thailand and International markets. When the company sponsors a Thai fighter the fighter changes their name to promote the brand. 3K Battery has had a total of 67 fights since turning pro in 1992. He has fought some good opposition but his biggest fight was when he lost to Manny Pacquiao by KO in December 2004. That was his last loss and he has won 14 fights straight since then. Out of his eight losses the only one by stoppage was to Pacquiao. He has a solid record but when he started his career he lost his first four fights. Against Molitor, 3K Battery can't rush in like he did against Pacquiao. He leaves himself open to overhand lefts and doesn't seem to catch the jab very well. He needs to be smart and take his time using feints and counter punch his opponent. I think Molitor will be too smart and quick on his feet. He may even get a stoppage win. He needs to perform in his usual stand up straight style with his hands held high to block any wild swings from 3K Battery. Molitor should double and triple his right jab and then throw a straight left to his opponent's head which should keep him out of danger and prevent 3K Battery from getting close. By being smart and picking his punches Molitor will force the referee to stop the fight around the middle rounds giving him another win and a step towards the bigger boys of this great division.

Now let's answer your questions on Ricky Hatton...

Is this the biggest fight involving a Briton you can remember? Can you put it into context? Wayne replies: I think it's the biggest fight involving a Briton because right now Mayweather is rated Pound for Pound the best fighter in the world. There have been several fights involving British fighters over the years including Frank Bruno fighting Mike Tyson. Their two meetings took place in Las Vegas and I'm sure every fighter dreams of fighting there since it is known as the "Boxing Capital of the World". Hatton is coming to Mayweather's backyard - since he lives there - to try to dethrone him and the world will be watching. What makes Ricky so popular? Wayne replies: Ricky never forgot his roots and still hangs out with his old buddies. He's approachable and mingles with his fans. But his style of fighting is probably what attracts his fans the most. He gives his all and comes to fight in every bout. Will all the hype and high profile be a distraction for Ricky? Wayne replies: Ricky has always been in the spotlight. When he fought Kostya Tszyu not a lot of people gave him a chance. He's experienced enough to know how to cope with the hype. Even with the HBO camera crew following him for their 24/7 series he will take it all in his stride. Is stepping up to welterweight a concern, does it pose any problems? Wayne replies: Floyd started his career at super featherweight and he's not really a big guy but has moved through weight divisions too. Ricky didn't look great against Luis Collazo at welterweight but styles make fights and Collazo was a southpaw. Floyd is coming down after beating Oscar de la Hoya at junior middleweight and Ricky is moving up from junior welterweight so the weight will probably suit both of them. What did you make of Floyd doing Dancing With The Stars so close to the fight? Wayne replies: Floyd isn't dumb. He was commuting back and forward from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and he is always in shape. He was voted off last week so he'll have more time to prepare and focus on this upcoming fight. But just like Ricky, I'm sure he's been taking it seriously.
