Second World Series win in four years for Boston.
The Boston Red Sox are the 2007 World Series champions after squeaking by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday night to complete a 4-0 sweep.
The 4-3 victory in Denver secured a second World Series win for Boston in four years - after going nearly 90 years without celebrating one.
David Ortiz's first inning single scored rookie sensation Jacoby Ellsbury to give the Red Sox an early lead, and catcher Jason Varitek doubled the lead with his own RBI single to score third baseman Mike Lowell.
Lowell - who was named as the MVP of the World Series - then got in on the party, hitting a home run to give the Sox a 3-0 lead in the seventh.
In the bottom of the same inning Colorado got a bit of hope back when Brad Hawpe jacked a homer of his own, but Bobby Kielty's shot in the eighth gave the Sox a 4-1 lead.
Garrett Atkins hit a two-run home run to give Rockies fans something more to shout about, but that was all the yelling they would be doing after closer John Papelbon closed things out with his third save of the Series.
Boston heart
"This team's got a lot of heart," Varitek told the US media after the win.
"We worked really hard. We just beat a very, very good team, an excellent team. We had to do the little things."
Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said it was just the 'little things' that the Rockies did not do properly, leaving on base 12 runners during the game and many more during the series.
"At the end of the day, you look back on the game. How did you execute?" Hurdle said. "They executed better than us all four games."
MVP on a free
Amazingly, series MVP Mike Lowell immediately found himself a free agent directly after the game, with Boston not reaching a deal to extend his stay at Fenway Park.
The 33-year-old third baseman may have led his side to the World Series, but he now finds himself a free agent with the Red Sox possibly eyeing Alex Rodriguez after he left the New York Yankees.
"Free agency is very new to me, so I'm going to take it step by step," said Lowell.
"I've never hid the fact I enjoy playing in Boston. I have great team-mates, a great manager, great coaches, so we will see what happens.
"I'm more focused on celebrating right now."
Red Sox fans sang their support for Lowell long after the game at Coors Field, but the man who also won the World Series with the Florida Marlins in 2003, may have well played his last game in a Boston uniform.
