The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has paved the way for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to strip disgraced sprinter Marion Jones of her Olympic medals after annulling all of her results back to 2000.
The track and field governing body took the steps after the admission by the American that she had used drugs since 2000
Indeed, with Jones having confirmed she was using the prohibited substance known as 'the clear' from September 1, 2000, she was also saddled with a two-year ban and asked to return all the prize money she had won in the intervening period.
The IAAF has also recommend that the results of team races that Jones took part in should also be scrubbed.
As such, the IOC executive board look likely to disqualify Jones and the USA women's 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams from the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000 and insist on the return of all medals.
