World Cup of Pool : Team India's Raj Hundal eyes Netherlands scalp
Tuesday 22 September 2015 13:17, UK
Raj ‘Hitman’ Hundal insists he and partner Amar 'AK-47' Kang have nothing to fear when Team India tackle the Netherlands in the World Cup of Pool, live on Sky Sports 3 on Wednesday night.
Hounslow-born Hundal and California-based Kang have been handed a tough opening draw against Dutch pair Nick van den Berg and Niels Feijen, who have finished tournament runners-up for the last two years.
India suffered a narrow 7-5 loss to the Dutch duo in the last 16 two years ago, but Hundal is confident he and Kang can upset the No 3 seeds at Bethnal Green's York Hall.
"The best always clash at the top and I know their games inside out," Hundal told Sky Sports.
"I have a great winning record on them personally and have seen them crumble before on many occasions but I also know they are consistent and will play well, as always.
"They got off to a good start on us [at the World Cup of Pool in 2013] but we came back at them and levelled 5-5. They looked weak to be honest and then fell over the line with a 7-5 win. If that match was longer - like race to 15 - then I couldn't have seen them winning that day.
"They won't do anything special this time round but will keep it above average. They don't worry me or my partner and we look forward to the game."
Hundal is a former doubles partner of Ronnie O'Sullivan during the five-time snooker world champion's brief spell playing on the competitive pool circuit.
Widely regarded as one of the game's entertainers, Hundal is promising something special when he and Kang take to the arena on Wednesday.
"AlI I can say is it will be box office stuff," he said. "This match marks the 'Return of the Raj' so there might be a fun entrance or two for my fans.
"This is the biggest event on the pool calendar and missing this will be like missing Christmas.
"Team India are looking better than ever. We have been working hard in training and this match will be explosive.
"It's going to be a mix of emotions and just like a roller coaster ride there will be plenty of highs and lows."
