Lindsey Vonn faces a spell on the sidelines after she "severely fractured" her right arm while training in Colorado.

The four-time overall World Cup champion suffered the injury while on the slopes in Copper Mountain and had surgery in Vail on Thursday night.

Vonn, who has been hampered by setbacks since suffering a serious knee injury in 2013, posted x-ray pictures of her arm on social media.

"Unfortunately, yesterday I crashed while training in Copper and severely fractured the humerus bone in my right arm," Vonn wrote on her Facebook page.

"I had successful surgery last night in Vail and everyone took great care of me.
