Manchester claim third straight win in the Elite League

Simon Mangos' overtime goal gave Manchester Phoenix a 6-5 victory over the Cardiff Devils on Saturday. Elsewhere there were wins for the Sheffield Steelers, the Nottingham Panthers and the Edinburgh Capitals in their basement battle.

Cardiff Devils 5 Manchester Phoenix 6

Elite League topscorer Joe Tallari scored his 26th and 27th goals of the season as Manchester Phoenix won their third straight game. Brian Passmore scored twice and Sean Starke scored the fifth, but Cardiff leveled through Max Birbraer, Matus Petricko, Jason Silverthorn, Mike Garrow and Brad Voth. Mangos' sixth goal of the season 85 seconds into overtime gave Manchester the valuable extra point though. The Devils have now won just one of their last six matches meanwhile, and will be desperate to get to number one goaltender Phil Osaer back to fitness as quickly as possible.

Basingstoke Bison 3 Sheffield Steelers 5

The Steelers moved up to third in the league thanks to goals from Ashley Tait (two), Joey Talbot, Jason Hewitt and Doug Sheppard in Basingstoke. Greg Chambers, Lee Richardson and Brad Cruikshank scored for the Bisons who remain third from bottom.

Nottingham Panthers 4 Newcastle Vipers 2

The Panthers claimed their 10th straight win with goals from James Ferrara, the returning Johan Molin, Kevin Bergin and Patrik Wallenberg. Pavel Gomenyuk and David Longstaff scored the consolation goals for the Vipers, who have now claimed just one win from their last eight games on the road.

Hull Stingrays 1 Edinburgh Capitals 3

Edinburgh closed the gap on Hull to six points at the bottom of the table after the Capitals recorded their first away win of the season. Jake Riddle opened the scoring for the previously in-form Stingrays, but Mark Wires scored twice and Ross Dalgleish once as the Capitals claimed that elusive first win on the road.
