Webster to face the Wizard

Mark Webster will face Simon Whitlock in the final of the BDO World Championship after ending the reign of champion Martin Adams.

Mark Webster ended the reign of Martin Adams as BDO champion and now faces a final showdown against Australian Simon Whitlock who overcame Brian Woods. Webster edged a see-saw encounter with defending champion Adams, eventually emerging a 6-4 victor. The 24-year-old Welshman - currently number one in the BDO's world rankings - made a flying start to the semi-final and raced into a 3-0 lead with some heavy scoring and clinical finishing. But Adams refused to be fazed and fought his way back into the match in fine style, pulling level at 3-3. The Englishman then got his nose ahead at 4-3 and looked poised to go on and record a memorable victory. However, it was then Webster's turn to dig deep and, having restored parity once again at 4-4, he ran through the next two sets to book himself a first trip to the final at Lakeside. There he will face Whitlock who is now looking to become the second BDO champion from Australia, following his friend Tony David's triumph in 2002. Whitlock was always in control of his semi-final against Woods but found it hard to put his tenacious opponent to bed. The 'Wizard of Oz' was once again precision personified, especially on the doubles, and eased out into 4-1 lead. Woods fought back to make it 4-2 and, after Whitlock had taken the next, claimed the decider in the eighth set to keep his hopes alive at 5-3. But it proved a temporary reprieve as the Australian raced through the ninth, closing out the match with double nine to set up what should be an intriguing clash with Webster.
