Gwen Jorgensen sealed her place in history as she secured victory in the elite women's race at the World Triathlon Championships in Edmonton, Canada.
The American used her trademark fast finish to win an unprecedented fifth World Series race of the season, equalling the mark set in the men's competition by Britain's Alistair Brownlee.
Jorgensen's win, in five seconds over two hours, also secured her the overall ITU World Championship final.
New Zealand's Andrea Hewitt came home second ahead of compatriot Nicky Samuels and another American Sarah Groff.
And it was a bad day for England's Commonwealth champion Jodie Stimpson, who could only manage to finish in 13th and dropped from second to fourth in the overall rankings.
“I didn’t really execute too well in the swim and first lap of the bike I got a little nervous and let that get to me. I just had to try and reel it back in,” said Jorgensen.
“I don’t think it’s really sunk in at all, I just want to thank everyone that has helped me so much, Patrick, Jaime (Turner). Sarah Haskins was huge today. I’m really happy.
“I couldn’t have done it without Haskins. I owe her a lot and I’m really grateful she was here."
Groff's final result was enough to lift her into second in the overall rankings ahead of Hewitt and Stimpson with another Briton, the injured Helen Jenkins, back in sixth.
