Hall of Fame

The night before Wrestlemania, was a night of respect for the 2008 inductees of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Saturday evening, the night before Wrestlemania, was a night of respect and honour for the 2008 inductees of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Like he has done for four decades, once again it was Ric Flair who headlined and stole the show. When the 'Nature Boy' came out onto the stage he received a standing ovation of applause for nearly ten minutes and as he began his speech there didn't seem to be a dry eye in the building.

The large television monitors in the Amway Arena in Orlando , Florida showed Superstars such as Chris Jericho, John Cena and even the Big Show wiping a few tears from their eyes.

'Naitch' himself shed a few tears a on a couple of occasions but was able to hold it all together throughout his nearly hour long speech. Flair guided the crowd through his magnificent career by thanking every friend and colleague who had helped him reach that prestigious moment.

The 16-time champion said to his current colleagues: "I want to thank you for your friendship and the respect you have given me."

Wearing gold cufflinks that replicated the NWA World Heavyweight title, given to him by the man who inducted him Triple H, Flair even announced who his greatest opponent was: Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat.

He said about his matches with Steamboat: "We must have had 2000 matches and I don't ever think we had a bad one."

Had the night not been about Ric Flair, one man who was not even inducted would have been considered to have stolen the show.

The Rock

The Rock returned to the WWE for one night only and entertained the crowd for nearly an hour as he inducted his father Rocky Johnson and grand-father High Chief Peter Maivia.

Recently the man now known as Dwayne Johnson has distanced himself from wrestling and the fans could have easily jeered 'The Peoples Champion' but The Rock was far too entertaining for that too happen.

Chants of "Please Come Back" rang around the arena were only just the beginning of the admiration The Rock was shown. As he interacted with many of the Superstars in the audience such as Chris Jericho, John Cena and Santino Marella it felt like the WWE was back in the 'Attitude' era of the late 1990s to early 2000s.

However The Rock's address to Stone Cold Steve Austin was the most interesting of all. As 'The Great one' began to regale stories of his 3 Wrestlemania main events with 'The Rattlesnake' choruses of "One more match!" and "Austin-Rocky!" were bellowed at The Rock.

The possibility of a fourth Stone Cold Steve Austin versus The Rock Wrestlemania Main Event would have fans worldwide salivating at the prospect. And if one match would ever tempt both men to lace up their boots one more time, it would be that.

Also during the night, to induct the Jack and Jerry Brisco, John Bradshaw Layfield gave a fantastic speech about what he called: "the greatest ever tag-team".

WWE announcer Jim Ross inducted into the Hall of Fame his former broadcast colleague Gordon Solie to Solie's five children.

Mae Young told the WWE fans that she would wrestle when she is 100 years old, as she was inducted by Pat Patterson. A legend in the Florida area Eddie Graham's influence on the wrestling business was recognised as his son Mike received the accolade from Dusty Rhodes.

John Cena gave an extremely passionate speech thanking all the Superstars in the Hall of Fame for helping to make the WWE and Wrestlemania what it is today.

Yet the night will be remembered for Ric Flair, once again he was 'The Man' and as Triple H said: "Not only does this man deserve to be in the Hall of Fame but he should have his own wing".
