British rider fails to match 2007 successes
Victoria Pendleton claimed a silver medal behind the United States' Jennie Reed in the keirin - the final event of the world track cycling championships in Manchester.
The British rider, the defending champion in the event, crossed the line ahead of Germany's Christin Muche, who in turn took the bronze after a photo finish.
Reed, a bronze medallist at Melbourne in 2004, claimed her first world title after pulling ahead of a four-rider bunch in the closing metres.
Having been at the back of the pack early on as the motorpacer brought the riders around the track, Pendleton launched a late charge but then appeared to run out of steam.
The result means Pendleton will not achieve a repeat of her 2007 successes, when she claimed three gold medals in the sprint, team sprint and keirin.
She had defended her sprint title in style on Saturday, having teamed up with Shanaze Reade to defend their team sprint crown, to add to Britain's record haul of medals.
That total now stands at 11, Great Britain having won nine gold and two silver medals.
