Safety in sight

Kasey Keller told Goals On Sunday with their destiny in their own hands Fulham have high hopes of survival.

Kasey Keller told Goals On Sunday that with their destiny in their own hands Fulham have high hopes of staying up. With Fulham beating relegation rivals Birmingham 2-0 on Saturday, they know that a win on the final day at Portsmouth, who may have one eye on the FA Cup final, will see them safe. Speaking on Goals On Sunday, the former Millwall, Leicester and Spurs stopper was in buoyant mood after a fantastic result over Birmingham. He said: "It was tremendous! If you could have told us four or five weeks ago that destiny was in our hands going into the last game of the season, we would've taken that. "I think it's big credit to everybody at the club that nobody has quit. 70 minutes to go, 2-0 down to Man City and you come back and win 3-2, come back and beat Birmingham and now go to Portsmouth and say 'y'know a win keeps us up!' "We don't have to worry about anybody else's results we just have to beat Portsmouth and we're still in the Premier League, and that's a tremendous feeling." Keller has been one of the few American players to prove a success, not only in England, but also in Spain and Germany where he had spells with Real Vallacano and Borussia Moenchengladbach. At 38, he is the oldest player in the Premier League and he hopes to continue that next season, but says that if he has to move on, he will do to prolong his career. "Oldest man in the Premier League!" Said Keller. "I said to Maik Taylor before we went out, 'if I stop playing will you be the oldest?' He said no, he thinks Jamo (David James) beats him by a little bit so... "I think it's the same situation I was in last year at Gladbach where I'm not necessarily looking for something. If something comes around that feels right - if its right to stay at Fulham or leave and go some place else then that's what it is. "It's tough, my kids have been in four different schools in three different countries. At some stage we'd like to get them settled, but as a footballer your career is finite. I'm not gonna play a whole lot longer so if it means I have to leave one more time then we do it."
