American lays down an early marker to rivals ahead of Olympics

Allyson Felix set the fastest time of the year in the 100m to retain her title at the Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix. The 22-year-old American managed a lifetime best of 10.93 seconds in Doha to beat out the Jamaican pair of Sherone Simpson and Sheri-Ann Brooks. She followed up her success in the 100m by winning the 400m in a time of 49.83 seconds. It is the second successive year that Felix, who is the reigning World 200m champion, has done the double at the event. In his first action of the year, European triple jump silver medallist Nathan Douglas managed a distance of 16.73metres to finish fourth. British number one Andy Turner came home in third spot in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.41 seconds. The race was won by American David Oliver, who ran under the 13 second barrier to post the fastest time so far in 2008.
