Kasey Kahne won the NASCAR All-Star Race at Lowes Motor Speedway on Saturday night, claiming a cool $1 million for the victory.
Kahne - who only managed to qualify for the race because he was voted in by NASCAR's fans - gambled on a 'fuel only' stop after the third of four 25 lap segments to win the race comfortably.
"We just kept fighting and that was a great race. I can't believe we just won a million dollars," he said, dedicating the victory to his late grandfather who passed away in January.
Greg Biffle won the third segment and finished the All-Star second, while his Roush Racing colleague Carl Edwards won the second segment. Both won $75,000 each for winning a segment of the race.
Polesitter Kyle Busch looked as though he was going to dominate the race - he took the first segment comfortably - but an engine problem meant that he couldn't start the second two segments of the race. His car left the scene to the cheers of a crowd who weren't about to forget his fracas with Dale Earnhardt Jr at Richmond.
One of the stories of the race was NASCAR rookie Sam Hornish, who got in the race by virtue of finishing second in the 'All Star Open' - a qualifier for the major race - earlier in the day. He came back from three laps down to eventually stop in seventh.
