Leading into the match-up, JBL had relentlessly goaded the Straightedge Superstar by calling him an undeserved champ following his opportunistic title claiming victory.
JBL earned his title shot on RAW when General Manager Mike Adamle called for the Longhorn Loudmouth and Chris Jericho to take on Punk in a Handicap Match under the stipulation that whoever pinned Punk would earn a shot at the gold.
However, there was nothing undeserved about the way CM Punk defended his title, another display of athleticism and bravery saw him power to victory.
