Thorpe's old coach vows to make Britain 'dominant force' by 2012

Doug Frost, the man who coached and masterminded Ian Thorpe to three gold medals in 2000, has joined British Swimming. Frost has been named head coach of the new British Swimming Intensive Training Centre in Stirling and has vowed to make Britain a 'dominant force' in the 2012 Games. He said: "After working at elite level in swimming for the past 18 years, I believe I can help make Great Britain a dominant force in international swimming in 2012." Following Rebecca Adlington's double gold medal haul in Beijing plus Team GB claiming another four medals in the pool five new ICTs have been set-up nationwide to provide world-class facilities for swimmers in the build-up to the London Games. Frost now believes that Britain has the structure in place to compete at the highest level of the sport. He said: "I think with the introduction of the new ICTs there will be a new added element of high-level competition between the centres that will only help further develop the sport, while introducing high-level training facilities will only help develop swimmers in the UK."
