Australian excited by new challenge

The Celtic Dragons have appointed Sue Gaudion as their new head coach. The Australian coach has been tasked with training and developing the Dragons, based at the Welsh Institute of Sport, as they aim to make an impact in the Co-operative Netball Superleague. Gaudian brings a wealth of experience to the post, having played with Australian junior squads for several years and at national level under England's current national coach Sue Hawkins. She coached Singapore at the 1999 World Championships in New Zealand, State League with Perth Orioles in Australia and West Coast Fever in the ANZ Championships earlier this year. "I jumped at the opportunity to come over here," she said. "I watched the team play on Sunday against Brunel Hurricanes. First impressions were good, but we have work to do if we want to improve our league position this season." Chief executive of Welsh Netball, Sue Holvey added: "I was delighted when Sue showed interest in being our head coach and she comes with excellent references and a wealth of experience. "Sue represents a very important step for us at the start of the new season. She is quite a coup having come over from Australia straight out of coaching in the ANZ Championships."
