Home team looking for back-to-back wins

Europe are only two points away from winning the 2008 Mosconi Cup after taking a 9-5 victory over the United States on Saturday. They started the session 7-4 ahead and won two out of the three matches in Malta to close in on the 11-point figure they need for victory. If successful, it will be the first time Europe have won the competition two years running. The USA team needed to make inroads in Saturday's evening session and they made a bright start as Rodney Morris sealed a 5-3 win against Niels Feijen. But their momentum came to a halt in the second match as Ralf Souquet overcame Shane Van Boening 5-2. Mika Immonen also took a 5-3 victory over Jeremy Jones and has now been involved in four winning singles or doubles matches. Further sessions will take place on Sunday afternoon and, if needed, on Sunday evening. The Sunday afternoon session features a doubles match, a singles match then another doubles match. If the American team are still alive then a maximum of four singles matches will be played to decide the Cup winners.
