Lee Hendrie told Soccer AM why Blackpool boss Simon Grayson will always be Larry to him!
Gaffer will always be Larry, says Hendrie
Lee Hendrie popped into the
Soccer AM studios on Saturday and revealed he will never call Blackpool boss Simon Grayson gaffer!
The pair played together at Aston Villa and Hendrie, who is on loan with the Tangerines, admitted it would feel too strange to call his former peer anything else but Larry!
"I used to sit next to him and clean his boots and stuff and he used to give me quite a bit of stick, but I've always known him as Larry, so I can't call him gaffer!" he told
Soccer AM.
"People always ask 'what is it like being managed by someone you played with', but he's just the same. He has to chill out a bit more, but I don't mind because I still have a bit of banter with him about his gear and stuff!
"Obviously he has changed a bit because being a manager is a lot different from being a player, but he's done really well there and I'm enjoying it there too."
As well as cleaning his new boss's boots, Hendrie was also handed the task of getting John Fashanu's 'tools' looking spick and span.
Imposing
At 6'2" the former Jamaica striker was an imposing figure and Hendrie admitted he was more than just a little intimidated by the former Gladiators presenter.
"I cleaned Fash's boots when he came and he had these big red Quasar boots," he said.
"I was scared of him anyway, because I had heard about all the martial arts and stuff, and he pulled me into this little room and handed me these big boots and said 'these are my tools, if they're not right, I'm not right'!"
"I was shaking. I took them home and dried them and got them all shiny, but I don't think it did him any favours to be honest! But I always got a good tip around Christmas and he was a bang on bloke!"
