Ex-champions set to clash at Lakeside
Former champions Ted Hankey and Martin Adams will take each other on for a place in this year's BDO World Championship final after contrasting victories on Friday night.
Hankey, the 2000 champion, had little trouble in beating another former winner John 'Boy' Walton 5-1, but it was a different story for 'Wolfie', who needed to dig deep against Gary Robson, eventually winning 5-4.
Hankey stormed into a 4-0 before the interval against Walton, snatching the crucial third set with a 76 checkout after his opponent had missed four darts at a double.
Walton's best game deserted him in the next as he allowed Hankey to extend the advantage despite 'The Count' missing 12 darts at doubles.
And although the 2001 champion pulled a set back Hankey closed out the match in the next to book his place in the last four.
Adams awaits, although the 2007 winner overcame a fright in the fourth quarter-final after Robson fought back from 3-0 down to level the match.
Wolfie regained the advantage but Robson forced a decider which proved a nervy affair, both players fluffing chances on the doubles before Adams nailed double five for the win.
