Munster had built a reputation as one of the most formidable Irish club sides in history, making their home ground of Thomond Park a fortress. With rugby turning professional in the mid-1990s, the club was accepted into European competition and after losing twice in the final, lifted the Heineken Cup in 2006 with a nail-biting 23-19 victory over Biarritz.
