Edinburgh Capitals took a huge step towards clinching the final play-off place with a stunning 4-2 road success at Coventry Blaze on Sunday night.
The win ensures Doug Christiansen's Scottish hopefuls remain three points ahead of Hull Stingrays with both sides having three games left to play.
The victory was made even more impressive after Blaze had dominated the early exchanges and led 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Jonathan Weaver and Carlyle Lewis.
Both goals came in an opening period which saw 24 shots rain down on Capitals netminder Pasi Raitanen.
However, an explosive second period turnaround saw Edinburgh power 4-2 ahead as the home fans were forced to watch on in disbelief.
A powerplay goal by Adam Stefishen at 26.41 set the visitors on their way and further efforts followed from Joe Dustin, Mark Hurtubise and player/coach Christiansen to complete the scoring.
The victory will be a bitter pill to swallow for
Hull Stingrays after they romped to a 8-1 home victory over hapless
Basingstoke Bison the same evening.
Stingrays quickly erased memories of the heavy defeat to Cardiff Devils the previous night to inflict a 25th straight loss on the Bison.
The home side didn't take long to find their groove - Jeff Glowa firing in a first period hat-trick after Konstantin Kalmikov had opened the scoring to see Stingrays soar 4-0 ahead.
Bison got their only goal of the game at 22.56 with a strike from Shaun Thompson, however Slava Koulikov re-opened the four-goal advantage on the powerplay in the final minute of the second period.
Aaron Wilson, Matt Reynolds and Troy Neumeier completed the scoring to equal the most goals Stingrays have ever scored in the EIHL and to give them their best ever winning margin in their Elite league history.
Newly-crowned champions
Sheffield Steelers were on the receiving end of a fourth straight win for
Cardiff Devils after a 6-3 defeat at the Sheffield Arena.
Tyson Teplitsky, Phill Hill, Wes Jarvis and Matt Elich, Mike Prpich and Brad Voth struck for the visitors with Ashley Tait, Steve Munn and Rod Sarich finding the net for the Steelers.
Elsewhere on Sunday night,
Newcastle Vipers all but sealed a seventh-placed finish in the Elite League standings with a 5-3 road success at
Manchester Phoenix.
The prolific Derek Campbell put the visitors ahead with his 21st goal of the season only for Nathan Ward to hit back on the powerplay at 4.42.
Goals from David Longstaff and Rob Rankin increased Vipers lead to 3-1 after the second period before an an entertaining four-goal blitz in the final 20.
Bruce Mulherin reduced the deficit to one goal, however two goals in the space of 18 seconds from Ben Campbell and Ed Courtenay put the Vipers out of reach.
Phoenix did get another goal on the board as Adam Walker found the net at 54.17 but it was a case of too little too late.
