PDC newcomer Gary Anderson wants to win his first major at next month's UK Open in Bolton.
Scottish star aiming for first PDC major in UK Open debut in Bolton
PDC newcomer Gary Anderson will not be turning up to the UK Open in Bolton to enjoy his first televised major tournament - as the Scot is determined to win it at the first time of asking.
Anderson joined the PDC earlier this year after at one time being the top-ranked star in the BDO, and he is already targeting his first major success.
A winner of two major titles in Holland in 2007, Anderson is now full-time on the PDC circuit and won his first ranking event in Newport last weekend.
Anderson also made a cameo appearances at the Premier League in Cardiff, beating former world champion John Part, and he now has his sights set on the UK Open title.
The Scottish star wants to challenge the likes of Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld and defending Bolton champion James Wade.
Majors
"I'm looking forward to Bolton," said Anderson, who will compete on the opening night on Thursday June 4.
"When myself and [former World Champion] Mark Webster moved across, our aim was to qualify for the television events, which was added pressure straight away.
"We've both done that and I can set my sights on Bolton now. Phil is the greatest ever player and if you're lucky you'll catch him on a bad day, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.
"That starts in the UK Open and I can't wait."
Anderson showed he is at home with the PDC's finest as he beat Part in Cardiff with a whopping 107 average - which was only bettered during the Premier League by Taylor.
Practice
"When I practice, I'm not happy unless I'm hitting 110-plus, but it would be nice to do it all the time," added Anderson.
"Phil Taylor puts in some big, big averages and my scoring, I reckon, is as good as his - but he is a killer with his finishing, anything from 130 upwards."
Wayne Mardle had to pull-out of the Premier League through illness, but he is not back on the oche and will be one of the 129 competitors lining up in Bolton for the 'FA Cup of darts'.
2004 UK Open winner Roland Scholten and last year's runner-up, American Gary Mawson, will also be in action on the first day of the tournament on Thursday June 4, alongside female star Anastasia Dobromyslova.
Local stars involved include Matt Clark, Chorley's Louis Blundell and Radcliffe-based Les Fitton, one of the 32 Holsten Qualifiers.
Taylor, van Barneveld and Wade will enter among the top 32 qualifiers - following eight knockouts held around the UK - at the third round stage on Friday evening.
