Double Olympic champion heads 40-strong team heading for Rome

Great Britain's swimming team for the World Championships has been announced with a blend of youth and experience selected to fly the flag in Rome next month. The 40-strong team is headed by double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington and also includes the likes of Jo Jackson - whose 400metres freestyle world record was reclaimed by Federica Pellegrini on Saturday - and fellow Olympic medallists David Davies and Keri-Anne Payne. Three-time world championship medallist and former world record holder Liam Tancock is also set for Italy. British Swimming head coach Dennis Pursley commented: "This team has a really good mixture of veterans and young, up-and-coming swimmers and that was our goal. "Our aim within the first year of the Olympic cycle plan was to try to get inexperienced swimmers competing in the premier events on the calendar such as the World Championships in Rome and this will be a good development opportunity. "I'm looking forward to seeing some strong leadership from the veterans to begin the process of moulding together a tightly bonded team."
