Moor secures winning point against US skipper Mack

Europe regained the Weber Cup on Sunday as they closed out a 17-11 success over America at the Barnsley Metrodome. Fittingly it was Yorkshireman Paul Moor who secured the winning point for the Europeans as he beat American captain Tim Mack with a composed display. It ended a nervy wait for the home side who had started the final session with a 16-8 lead needing just one point for victory. However, they lost the first three matches of the evening, including a dramatic bowl-off between Mika Koivuniemi and Jason Couch. The Finn had the chance to clinch the trophy as he needed nine pins with his final ball, but he managed just eight to leave the match a draw and Couch held his nerve to win the subsequent two-frame bowl-off to keep American hopes alive. But it proved a temporary reprieve as Moor saw off Mack in convincing fashion in the next, sealing victory for his side with a strike. The win is Europe's fourth in the ten-year history of the event and their first for four years. A delighted Moor told Sky Sports afterwards: "It feels so good to shoot a strike to win the Weber Cup for the team." US skipper Mack was gracious in defeat, adding: "Paul was just too good. You've got to take you hat off to them, they bowled well."
