Celtic Warrior to take on champion Cena

Irishman Sheamus will face WWE champion John Cena for the title next month at WWE's Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view event. This week, Monday Night RAW's special guest host, Jesse Ventura, came up with a revolutionary new concept, as he set out to find a fresh face opponent for Cena to defend his WWE title against. Ventura set up a number of matches involving superstars from all three brands who had never been fortunate enough to receive a title shot in the past. The winners of the respective matches would then go on to face one other later in the show in a first-ever Breakthrough Battle Royal. The winner of the Battle Royal would then go on to face the champion of their respective brand. The Battle Royal featured an array of young talent as Sheamus, Kofi Kingston, MVP, Mark Henry, R-Truth, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase all proved to be worthy winners earlier in the night. The Viper Randy Orton also got the opportunity to do battle in the main event as his persistence with the special guest host paid off. Ventura broke his own rules by allowing Orton to compete in the Battle Royal should he be successful in his match with high-flyer Evan Bourne, and that proved to be the case. When the Battle Royal finally got under way, two Superstars that have showcased a bitter rivalry towards one another of late, Kingston and Orton, were at each other's throats almost immediately.

Slammed

Before the end of the match, though, The Dreadlock Dynamo would get the better of The Viper, sending him over the top rope and out of the competition. Kofi had little time to celebrate, however, since, by the end, it was The Celtic Warrior, Sheamus, who would emerge from the pack of hungry superstars to become the number one contender for the WWE championship. John Cena and Sheamus then faced off as they confirmed their match at the Tables, Ladders and Chairs event in the form of a contract signing. While Ventura went on to say that he hoped Sheamus would defeat Cena, The Celtic Warrior attacked the WWE champion from behind and slammed him through a table. Ventura then declared that the WWE Championship Match would officially be a Tables Match. Other highlights on RAW this week included Cena overcoming straightedge superstar CM Punk while D-Generation X put their differences aside as they went on to defeat The Hart Dynasty.
