Top seed Tony O'Shea was pushed all the way by Robbie Green on day one of the BDO World Professional Darts Championship at Frimley Green.
Playing in the day's second match, O'Shea took the fifth and final set after Green had fought his way back to 2-2.
Defending champion Ted Hankey faced no such tribulations, however, the fifth seed beating Gary Robson 3-0.
But seeds did fall in the first round on Saturday as number eight Alan Norris lost to Robert Wagner, with number nine Joey Ten Berge defeated by Brian Woods.
Number 12 seed John Walton lost to Willy van den Wiel, while 16th seed Ian White was dispatched by Stephen Bunting.
