Dave Chisnall stunned top seed Tony O'Shea to set up a final showdown with Martin Adams at the BDO World Championship.
England captain sees off Welsh counterpart to reach third final
Dave Chisnall will face Martin Adams in the final of the BDO World Championship after a stunning win over top seed Tony O'Shea.
Lancastrian Chisnall hit 13 180s and managed an impressive 164 checkout during his 6-3 victory in the opening semi-final at Frimley Green.
O'Shea - the beaten finalist 12 months ago - had held a 3-2 lead at one stage in the contest, only to fail to muster another set after the interval.
Having struggled in the fifth set Chisnall came out on fire following the break, taking the sixth with three successive legs to level matters at three apiece.
The 29-year-old from St Helens then took the next set to go ahead for the first time before moving within one of victory by tearing his way through the eighth.
Top finish
After coming out on top in a scrappy opening leg to start the ninth set, Chisnall hit two treble 19s and then bull for a 164 finish - beating his 140 in the fourth set that had briefly stood as the highest checkout of the tournament so far.
He sealed victory in style by hitting the bull to take out 121 - and then announced that he would not be holding back in his celebrations afterwards.
"I'm over the moon, I just can't believe it," he told the
BDO website. "I am going to get drunk tonight because I have not had a good drink all week."
Meanwhile, Adams booked his place in Sunday's showpiece with a hard-fought 6-4 result against Martin Phillips.
The 53-year-old third seed - in his 17th world championship - looked to be coasting through to his third final when he led 4-0 and then 5-1.
However the England captain was forced to withstand a storming comeback from his Welsh counterpart, who moved within a set of his opponent when he took out 116 with double tops.
Adams just about held his nerve, though, double 12 sealing the fifth leg of the 10th set and ending a thrilling match that lasted 91 minutes.
