Mavericks bounce back from TeamBath defeat

Mavericks remain joint top of the Co-operative Netball Superleague standings after their 47-22 road victory over Glasgow Wildcats. The home side matched Mavericks goal-for-goal in the final period but the previous three quarters were dominated by the visitors. Karen Atkinson spearheaded the mid-court assault for Mavericks to send them into an early lead and Wildcats quickly fell behind. However, the hosts delivered a gritty performance which finally paid off in the concluding session as they mirrored their opponents' results. "Glasgow Wildcats are hard markers especially man-on-man and they never stopped all game," said Mavericks head coach Maggie Jackson. "They deserve credit for their final quarter performance."

Improvement

The Mavericks coach also believes there is definite room for improvement within her team. "We put immense pressure on the opposition although we still need to be more consistent on our attacking throughout the court," she added. "It was a good win, as ever good team spirit and Mavericks continue to move onwards and upwards." The visitors lost to defending champions TeamBath earlier in the week, and Glasgow head coach Denise Hollands believes the defeat may have given them added motivation to win. "Wildcats dug in deep to find solutions against a determined Mavericks side following their defeat against TeamBath, resulting in a well deserved 10-10 scoreline in the final quarter," she said.
