British skier hopeful for medal chances

Great Britain's Chemmy Alcott is in high spirits ahead of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver this week, believing she is in with a shout of winning a medal. The 27-year-old is due to compete in slalom, giant slalom, super G and super combined and will also be involved in the downhill event, hurtling down a mountain at over speeds of around 100 kilometres per hour. The Briton is exuding confidence leading into the showpiece and, having stuttered in her progress in the last few years due to various circumstances, admits she is feeling good about her skiing now and is hoping she can perform well.

Confidence

"I feel like if everything goes perfectly on the day, I would be in with a really good chance of winning," stated the Londoner. "Right now I'm the strongest in the giant slalom and the super G, but I know I can pull out a result in the downhill. "Skiing is so much about confidence that if you start skiing well in one discipline, you will be a threat in all of them. "All I can do is control my own journey to the Olympics and make sure my preparation, my mental strength and everything else peaks for that time. "I haven't had that consistency yet in a run so I know I'm going completely as an outsider, but still I've got a massive amount of self-belief."
