Just third World Cup win for Swiss in super-G
Switzerland's Dominique Gisin ended a year-long victory drought as she won the World Cup super-G on home turf in Crans-Montana. The 24-year-old considered not even taking part in Sunday's race after a poor downhill run on Saturday, but she responded with a first World Cup win in over a year. Gisin won two downhills last year, and this time it was super-G success as she raced down the course in one minute and 24.14 seconds to take the win. The Swiss finished 0.15 seconds ahead of American Lindsey Vonn, who won Saturday's downhill on the same piste, with Vonn's compatriot Julia Mancuso in third. Once again the weather played a part with wind affecting the race, but Gisin was delighted to have bounced back from Saturday's dreadful run.Bounce back
"I can hardly believe it," Gisin said. "Yesterday I probably skied the worst downhill in my career and I even wondered whether it was worth starting today. "But I'm a fighter and I told myself I could not beat the wind but had nothing to lose. To win a super-G, which is not my best event, in front of my home crowd is just unbelievable." Vonn was denied an 11th win of the season but still increased her overall lead in the World Cup over Maria Riesch to 245 points with four races left at the World Cup finals. Vonn has already wrapped up the crystal globe in the super-G, but still has to make sure of the overall title next week in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is Riesch's home mountain. "My plan was to win both races here but I leave Crans-Montana with three globes in my pocket and it's a good thing before Garmisch," said Vonn. "I'm still very nervous ahead of the finals. My aim there is to be OK in the technical events at last." Result1 D Gisin (Sui) 1 minute 24.14 seconds
