Kenya take one-two in World Cross Country
Dominant performances from Emily Chebet and Linet Masai gave Kenya a one-two in the World Cross Country in Poland on Sunday.
Chebet beat Masai by a single second in Bydgoszcz to edge her compatriot into second place for the second successive year.
Meselech Melkamu of Ethiopia finished third while fellow Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba, seeking her fourth World Cross Country title was run out of the medals.
Dibaba, whose last victory came in Edinburgh two years ago, was unable to overcome the muddy conditions and had to settle for fourth.
Kenya also won the team competition ahead of Ethiopia, with the United States finishing third.
Challenge
The British team, led by former European junior champion Stephanie Twell (23rd), took sixth place, with Faye Fullerton, Freya Murray and Stevie Stockton ending in 33rd, 37th and 47th respectively.
Kenya's Joseph Ebuya's brushed aside the challenge of Teklemariam Medhin of Eritrea to take the men's gold medal by six seconds, with Moses Kipsiro of Uganda a distant third.
Kenya were well clear of Eritrea and Ethiopia to collect top team honours, with the Britain's men finishing in 14th spot.
Mo Farah, who was returning to international action following an illness took 21st, while Andy Vernon (44th), Mike Skinner (65th) and James Wilkinson (107th) were the other scorers.
The British junior men and women's sides finished fifth and ninth respectively and were the first European squads across the line as Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda took the podium places in both races.
