Former NFL star outpoints Mexecutioner

Matt Mitrione kept his unbeaten record intact at UFC 119 after coming out on top of his stand up war with Joey Beltran. Mitrione was awarded the fight with scores of 29-28 across the board after a thrilling contest. Both fighters came out swinging from the off - and although Mitrione was staggered early on, he was able to gradually take control of the fight. By the final five minutes, former NFL star Mitrione was inflicting heavy damage to the bloodied 'Mexecutioner' - despite Beltran's best efforts. Mitrione now moves to 3-0, with Beltran dropping to 12-4. Veteran middleweight Joe Doerksen suffered an upset as he suffered a first-round defeat to rising star CB Dollaway. Having escaped one choke hold in the opening minute, Doerksen was eventually forced to tap out on the 2:13 mark. Thiago Tavares marked his return to the Octagon after a nine-month absence with a first-round win against Pat Audinwood. New Yorker Audinwood had arrived at UFC 119 with an unbeaten record, but he submitted 3:47 into the contest after he was caught be a guillotine choke.

Nasty

Tavares, whose last contest had been in January, was pleased with his victory. "I've come a long way since my loss to Matt Wiman," said Tavares. "I feel like I'm a much better fighter now. I went out there and had a great night." Waylon Lowe overcame Steve Lopez by a split decision in their lightweight contest. Two judges awarded the fight to Lowe 29-28, with Lopez getting the other verdict by the same scoreline. Lowe came close to securing his first UFC victory in the opening round, with only for Lopez to come fighting back. Lowe, though, enjoyed the better of the final round - with Lopez suffering a nasty cut to his forehead. Welterweight prospect TJ Grant recorded a unanimous points victory over Julio Paulino. Patience proved to be the key for the Canadian as he was awarded the fight with scores of 30-27 from all three judges. Sean McCorkle shone on his UFC debut was he took little over a minute to take out Mark Hunt. Former K-1 and PRIDE star Hunt tapped out after 63 seconds after McCorkle caught him in a kimura/armbar. "I am glad that's over," said McCorkle, who has now won all 10 of his fights. "He's a legend and he hits real hard. "I felt relaxed in guard and to tell you the truth, I was trying to sweep him with the kimura (arm-lock). "But once I got it to that point, I felt he was in pain and I knew I was going to get the tap. I've caught black belts with that move."
