Frank Mir brought the curtain down on UFC 119 with a bang as the heavyweight hitman knocked out Mirko Cro Cop in Indianapolis.
For 14 minutes, the main event at the Conseco Fieldhouse was hardly a classic - but former UFC champion Mir finished on a high as a counter left knee and a follow-up barrage ended the bout with 58 seconds left.
Mir had been patient throughout the contest, with the 31-year-old using his greater size to stalk his opponent.
Cro Cop survived the initial exchanges - and although he began landing with his left, it was a scrappy affair with Mir smothering the best the Croatian had to offer.
The second round continued in the same vein - with Mir looking to bully Cro Cop on the fence, with the former PRIDE star struggling to get loose.
With the crowd growing restless, Cro Cop began the final round on the offensive as he looked to force the pace - but despite landing a hard shot to the head, Mir didn't budge.
And in his desperate to land a knockout blow, Cro Cop left himself open to the counter - with a Mir landing with a counter left knee that sent the Croatian to the canvas.
Mir followed up with a barrage of blows before the referee stepped into stop the fight.
