King of the Ring crowned after eight-man tournament
After triumphing in an eight-man tournament featuring Superstars from both RAW and SmackDown, Sheamus is the 2010 King of the Ring.
Kicking off Monday Night RAW's special King of the Ring tournament, SmackDown's Alberto Del Rio clashed with United States Champion Daniel Bryan. And surprisingly, the Mexican prevailed in the tournament's first round, by forcing Bryan - a proven submission specialist - to tap out!
John Morrison joined Del Rio in the latter stages of the competition after he defeated "Dashing" Cody Rhodes whilst Ezekiel Jackson and Drew McIntyre were both eliminated from the tournament as a result of a double count-out in their match.
In the King of the Ring Semi-finals Match, Morrison and Del Rio had an unexpected visitor. The athletic duo collided in an impressive outing for both when Del Rio's nemesis, Rey Mysterio, appeared in Del Rio's car. The Mexican lost his focus and found The Shaman of Sexy quick to capitalise, nailing his opponent to advance in the tournament.
Advantage
Going into the final, Sheamus had a distinct advantage, having competed in one earlier qualifying match as opposed to Morrison's two. The Celtic Warrior heavily used that advantage, using his reserve of energy to overcome Morrison's impressive athleticism.
After a thrilling contest, the royal coronation took place, in which Sheamus was crowned King of the Ring 2010 by the reigning Miss USA, Rima Fakih.
Elsewhere, The Miz boasted and bragged about last Monday's thrilling finale where he cashed in his Money In The Bank contract and defeated Randy Orton to become the new WWE champion.
The whole spectacle proved too much for Jerry "The King" Lawler, who noted that Miz defeated Orton only after the former champion had been attacked by The Nexus and had to fight the group's leader, Wade Barrett.
Miz appeared incensed, and became even more frustrated when the anonymous RAW General Manager e-mailed in and arranged a Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match pitting Miz against Lawler!
Unfortunately for Lawler, Alex Riley would also have a say when that match finally got under way. The Miz's assistant attempted to intervene throughout the contest, but "The King" fought him off.
Later, Michael Cole also interfered in the dangerous encounter when he sensed the WWE Champion might lose his title. Cole halted Lawler's ascent up a ladder, costing him the bout, which allowed The "Cleveland Screamer" to retain his WWE title.
