Regal hands Young a third Superstars defeat
After the most acrimonious meltdown of a tag-team in recent memory, David Hart Smith took on Tyson Kidd, as the destruction of The Hart Dynasty continued in this week's WWE Superstars main event.
On Monday Night RAW last week Kidd caused the team to lose a tag team match against the reigning champions, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater of the Nexus.
Then for the first time ever, the two partners clashed in singles action with a fairly split crowd reaction for the new babyface persona of David Hart Smith and the heel traits of Tyson Kidd.
Kidd took control early on with an Enziguri to the back of the larger Smith's head, who rolled off the apron from the force of the kick.
When the action came back after a commercial break Kidd had grounded Smith with a chinlock, but this was reversed and Smith scored a near pinfall with a Northern Lights Suplex.
The telling moment, however, came after Smith had escaped the Sharpshooter from Kidd, and when the smaller, more athletic Kidd attempted a springboard sunset flip, his rival countered and crashed him into the mat to pick up the three count and the bragging rights victory.
After the bout Smith extended an open hand for Kidd, but this was rebuffed with a slap, with Kidd running from the ring claiming Smith had "got lucky."
The commentary team also noted the missing Natalya, the former valet of the pair and current WWE Divas Champion, who did not come out to support either at ringside.
Young beaten
Also on this week's show, Darren Young suffered a third Superstars defeat to the evergreen William Regal.
Despite a change in appearance, this has not brought an improvement in results for Young, even with his former NXT Season 1 Pro CM Punk commentating from ringside.
Regal made him submit for a third time in three with the Regal Stretch to a surprisingly good reaction from the crowd, not known for cheering known villainous personas like the Brit.
SmackDown's only match in the show was between Tyler Reks and Trent Barreta, with Curt Hawkins, who is currently embroiled in an ongoing duel with Barreta, joining Todd Grisham and Matt Striker on commentary duties.
Reks impressed again, pinning Barreta, who has seemingly lost his way after the departure of his former tag partner Caylen Croft from the company.
Hawkins cut a unsympathetic figure from the announcers desk, noting his disdain for Barreta, furthering the ill-feeling between the pair.
