Gulliver wins women's title yet again

Dutch youngster Jan Dekker came back from 3-0 down to beat 10th seed Garry Thompson 5-4 in the quarter-finals of the BDO World Championship at Frimley Green. When Thompson took a tense third set at the fourth attempt - Dekker having himself missed five darts at a clinching double - the match looked as good as over. The Yorkshireman also led 4-2 after a 152 checkout but missed four darts at a match-winning double 11 in the seventh set and another five in set eight. That allowed Dekker to level before taking the deciding set 5-3 after Thompson left a bogey 163. Dekker will face third seed Dean Winstanley in the semis, who cruised past Stephen Bunting 5-1. Bunting levelled at 1-1 after losing the first set but that was as good as it got, Doncaster's Winstanley powering through the remainder of the match. Top seed Martin Adams faces Martin Phillips in the first semi-final. Meanwhile, Trina Gulliver won the BDO Women's World Darts Championship for the ninth time in 10 years after beating Wales' Rhian Edwards 2-0 in a repeat of last year's final.

Dominant

The dominant Gulliver has also now gone four years without dropping a single set in the Frimley Green event, though she was tested throughout by Edwards. The Welsh thrower hammered second seed Deta Hedman and made a strong start on Friday night, taking a first leg which saw world number one Gulliver score just seven with her third set of darts. She hit back to take the set, though, and took the opening leg of the next before Evans responded with a 106 checkout to level the set. Gulliver won the next two legs, though, to clinch the £10,000 first prize and then said: "It is fantastic and a great feeling to retain the title. "All the championships are special to me but I want to dedicate this championship to my mum, who has not been well. I am hungry for more world titles."
