Bryan benefits from relationship breakdown
The United States Champion Daniel Bryan picked up a resounding victory over Ted DiBiase on this week's WWE Superstars, thanks in part to a bunch of flowers.
The duo have been involved in a quite infrequent feud the last few months, briefly for Bryan's US title, but this time the gold was not on the line and the rocky relationship between DiBiase and his girlfriend Maryse looks to have reached boiling point.
Midway through the contest, Yoshi Tatsu appeared with a bouquet of flowers for the French Diva standing ringside, which she accepted much to the annoyance of DiBiase.
After a fierce argument, Maryse proceeded to slap DiBiase with the flowers, sending him spinning straight into the grateful arms of Bryan, who locked in the LaBelle lock to claim a submission victory.
It was a good showing from both, proof that DiBiase can compete with the best workers in the industry if he is booked into a meaningful feud with a good gimmick.
His portrayal as the 'Fortunate Son' seems to be floundering and he has lost all the steam he garnered during his run as part of Randy Orton's Legacy in late 2009 and early 2010.
Gimmick
Even his former tag partner, Cody Rhodes, is outshining him in his current feud with Rey Mysterio on Friday Night SmackDown.
The Tag Team Champions were again on show this week, however a different duo graced the arena with the belts, as the Corre's Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel won the titles at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view on Sunday.
They defeated Trent Barreta and JTG after 'The One Man Rock Band' Slater hit his 'sweetness' finishing move on JTG.
Santino Marella brought some comedy to the show with his inimitable gimmick as he defeated Tyson Kidd in singles action.
The lethal Cobra brought the 1-2-3 for the former Tag Team Champion.
Indeed one has to wonder about the status of his partner Vladimir Kozlov now they have lost the belts, with Marella always likely to feature thanks to his heavy backing from the WWE Universe.
Chris Masters also beat Tyler Reks in a re-match from last week with the MasterLock.
