Yankees star beats Adrian Gonzalez in Derby final

The New York Yankees' Robinson Cano won the Home Run Derby at Chase Field on Monday. Cano beat Adrian Gonzalez of the Boston Red Sox 12-11 in the final round to claim the prize. Cano, with his father Jose as his pitcher, smashed a 472-footer in the first round. The left-hander matched his longest hit of the night to pull level at 11-11 with Gonzalez in the final and then added a 408-footer to right-centre field to clinch victory. Gonzalez had tied a Derby final record by leading off with 11 homers, only for Cano to surpass the mark. The American League beat the National League 76-19 overall in front of a 44,820 crowd. The event is held prior to the annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game each year. This year's 'Mid-summer Classic' takes place on Tuesday night at the same venue.
