Kruse looks ahead to London 2012

Great Britain's number one foilist Richard Kruse is hoping for success at the European Fencing Championships in Sheffield this week. The English Institute of Sport event is the biggest fencing tournament ever to be held in the UK and Kruse hopes the competition will help him get ready for next summer's Olympics in London. He said: "I've never done this before, but I think it will be good practise for London 2012, just to have the pressure of your friends and family in the stands supporting you and replicating that. "I think it will be a great event - it is a fantastic venue." Kruse sits 14th in the world rankings, which are currently led by Sheng Lei of China with the rest of the top five made up of Europeans. "The world champion is pretty much always European, as is the Olympic champion. Europe is the toughest continent," he added.
