Philip Humber: Helped extend the White Sox's winning streak

Philip Humber claimed his first win since pitching a perfect game more than a month ago as the Chicago White Sox extended their winning run to seven games with a 7-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Humber allowed two runs on five hits across seven innings, striking out five and walking one, to end a personal slump since his perfect outing on April 21.

He got five runs of support in the sixth, as well as a homer from Dayan Viciedo in the eighth, while Hideki Matsui hit a two-run shot in his Rays debut.

Daniel Nava's three-run double proved to be the key moment as the Boston Red Sox got to Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander for a 6-3 win.

Verlander gave up season highs in hits (10) and earned runs (five) in six innings of work, with Nava's bases-clearing hit in the fourth doing much of damage.

David Ortiz tacked on another run with a solo shot in the seventh.

Albert Pujols and Mark Trumbo homered and Dan Haren hurled seven innings of one-run ball as the Los Angeles Angels beat the New York Yankees 5-1.

Haren was also helped by some excellent defence, with Mike Trout and Peter Bourjos both making athletic plays in the outfield.

Dan Uggla hit a three-run blast as the Atlanta Braves snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the St Louis Cardinals.

Michael Bourn also homered for the Braves, who had five hits to the Cardinals' 10.

Marlins prevail

Hanley Ramirez homered and Anibal Sanchez threw seven strong innings as the Miami Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 3-1.

Sanchez allowed one unearned run as the Marlins won for the 20th time in May, a franchise record for victories in a single month.

Brett Lawrie scored three times and drove in three runs on three hits to help the Toronto Blue Jays to an 8-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

The Chicago Cubs made it back-to-back wins over the San Diego Padres as Alfonso Soriano's second homer in as many days helped them to a 5-3 victory.

Josh Willingham hit a three-run walk-off homer to give the Minnesota Twins a 3-2 win over the Oakland Athletics.

Homer Bailey pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1.

Will Smith earned his first career win in the Kansas City Royals' 8-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians.

Jeremy Hefner also got his first win in the bigs - and he provided some of the offence, too, with a home run in the New York Mets' 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Ryan Braun provided all the offence with a two-run blast in the first in the Milwaukee Brewers' 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 10-3 and the San Francisco Giants saw off the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1.
