'The Carpenter' ready for five round battle
Clay Guida is targeting a return to winning ways when he takes on Gray Maynard in the main event of UFC on FX 4.
The Lightweight contender lost an enthralling bout to champion Ben Henderson last November, which was his first defeat in five, and is determined to edge former number one contender Maynard in a bout that could determine who receives the next title shot.
"Victory is paramount for me. This [match] is tailor made for me - the longer the better. And hopefully it won't take me five rounds," he told
UFC.com.
"A finish will definitely put me back up there I believe that Gray, myself, Frankie (Edgar) and Ben (Henderson) are the top four in the world right now and it's going to be like that for a while.
"I know he's going to be coming out there and trying to take my head off and put me on my back, grind me out and finish me."
He added: "Anytime myself and Gray Maynard step into the cage anything can happen. We're two top Lightweights who are going to put it all on the line as usual and it is going to tell a tale."
Guida is
5/2 outsider with Sky Bet to beat Maynard (100/30) and is 9/2 to take a decision victory. Maynard is evens to take on a decision and has won by this method seven times in his last nine fights.
Elsewhere on the card, British hopeful Ross Pearson is 4/9 favourite to beat Cub Swanson (7/4), Brian Ebersole (2/5) takes on TJ Waldburger (15/8) and Sam Stout faces Spencer Fisher (12/5).
